Marina Barredo (viola), Ricardo de Lucas (double bass), and Iñigo Coto (violin) met while studying at the conservatory as teenagers influenced by metal, folk, and rock & roll. Each then followed their path with respective years of training abroad and collaborations with professional orchestras and groups. Years later, they unified their need to create something of their own that defines their understanding of music and decided to seek other means of expression. Their fascination with the txalaparta led them to "Kimu Txalaparta" (Sergio Lamuedra and Txomin Dhers), with whom they began working and founded Basabi. Since 2018, they have been relentless in their effort to popularize classical music and spread the txalaparta beyond its usual spaces.
Since their creation, they have collaborated with multiple artists: photographer and musician Javier Bejarano, dancer and choreographer Mikel del Valle, visual artist Mikel Belascoain, composers Haizea Huegun and María Mendoza, the musical group Kalakan, and filmmaker Josu Venero. Over the course of 6 years, they have developed 4 shows based on dance, video projection, and singing (Bakun, Kronos, Emeki, and Oma). They have also self-produced two LPs (Kronos and Oma) and have presented them in the following venues and festivals: Teatro Campos Elíseos in Bilbao, Victoria Eugenia in Donostia, Sala Bilborock, Festival Santas Pascuas, Festival Musikaire, Noia Harp International Festival, Loraldia Festibala, Pasaia Maritime Festival, the Portico of the Cathedral of Vitoria, Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, Guggenheim Museum, among others.

I began my musical studies at 19 in Bilbao, completing my higher studies in violin at "Musikene" under the tutelage of Catalin Bucataru.
I trained self-taught in composition and the intricacies of harmony under Itziar Larrinaga. I attended courses, seminars, conferences, and workshops by C. Bernaola, J. Torre, Philippe Hurel, Jean-Luc Hervé, among others, to continue my studies with Milena Perisic.
I received 3rd prize in the IV Composition Competition for Choirs “Gran Premio BAE”.
I collaborated with various orchestras such as BOS, Orquesta Cabaletta (Zaragoza), Conductus Ensemble, Maestrazgo Chamber Orchestra (Teruel), La Invención Armónica, Kammerphilharmonia of the Basque Country, among others.
I have participated in the recording of numerous soundtracks for short films, movies, and documentaries, also serving as a collaborator and studio musician.
Currently, I am a violinist, composer, and arranger (the latter two increasingly defining my musical path) for the neoclassical group BASABI and the American Folk band “The Old Timey String Band”, with which I have several albums on the market.
In teaching, I run my own study center “Musikan” with my wife.
Born in 1989 in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, I completed my piano studies and started playing txalaparta at 15. Among my teachers are Artze and Beltrán, and for 10 years I performed under the name “Ttikia eta Handia” in places like Paris, Madrid, and Budapest. In 2017, I joined Sergio Lamuedra in the group “Kimu Txalaparta”. That same year, the group “Basabi” was formed and Kimu joined with the txalaparta. With the first CD, they launched the project “Kronos” and now release the second one called “Oma”.
I also participate in groups such as Xiberoots, Maïru, Txaptrax, and Txalaize.
In 1988, I studied for 5 years at the Txalaparta School of Hernani with Juan Mari Beltran, a pioneer teacher in teaching the instrument. Since then, I have been fully dedicated to the innovation and teaching of the txalaparta.
I have collaborated on numerous recording projects (Luis de Pablo, Ismael Serrano, Briganthya, etc.). I have also toured various cities with the txalaparta (Manila, Managua, Paris, Brussels, Edinburgh, Berlin, Frankfurt, etc.). Currently, I am a teacher in Donostia, Zarautz, Arrasate, and Usurbil. I am also a txalapartari in KIMU Txalaparta and BASABI.
I began my double bass studies at the Getxo conservatory. Subsequently, I studied middle grade with Christoph Filler at the Leioa conservatory.
I pursued higher double bass studies at ESMUC, Superior de Salamanca, and later at Musikene.
I had the opportunity to study with internationally renowned professors such as Thomas Martin, Antonio García Araque, Giuseppe Ettore, Wolfgang Güttler.
I have collaborated with the most important symphony orchestras in the country and regularly work with the Bilbao Symphony and the Navarre Symphony.
In chamber and contemporary music, I am a founding member of Xare Labotateguia and have collaborated with Kuraia ensemble.
I teach double bass in the social project Etorkizuna Musikatan and have studies in cultural management from EOI.
I started playing the violin at the age of 5. After studying violin and viola at the Bilbao Conservatory, I went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Barenboim-Said Academy.
I have played with youth orchestras like JONDE, the Gustav Mahler, and the European Baroque Orchestra, and with professional orchestras like the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra or the Navarre Symphony Orchestra, as well as early music groups like the Seville Baroque Orchestra, Granada Baroque Orchestra, Accademia del Piacere, and Propitia Sydera. I founded my own baroque orchestra, NCB, with which I toured major European cities (London, Lyon, Edinburgh, Padua, Oxford).
Currently, I play for pleasure, collaborate with people who interest me, and teach at the conservatory where I grew up. A few years ago, I started this personal project called BASABI, with which I have two albums and many wonderful festivals, doing what we love. I only have one certainty: what you feel through music is incomparable to anything else.
